A new solution for sustainable agriculture: WeedEye strengthens with OUVC investment

WeedEye is Obuda Uni Venture Capital’s (OUVC) latest investment, offering an answer to one of the most pressing challenges in sustainable agriculture: how to keep farmland weed-free efficiently while drastically reducing chemical use. The startup’s real-time, AI-powered weed detection and targeted spraying technology can reduce pesticide use by up to 90%, without affecting crop yields and while significantly lowering environmental impact.

The essence of the WeedEye system is that it does not treat the entire field with chemicals, but only sprays the specific areas where weeds are actually present. Cameras mounted on the sprayer boom and real-time image processing algorithms continuously monitor the vegetation, making spray/no-spray decisions in just a few milliseconds, achieving millimeter-level accuracy while moving. Thanks to its modular design, the system can be easily installed on almost any agricultural sprayer, from small family farms to large-scale operations. It requires no special expertise to operate, is easy to use, and provides a fast return on investment.

WeedEye’s technology reduces both farmers’ costs and their carbon footprint, while also helping to preserve soil and water resources. The system is particularly relevant as a response to the European Union’s Green Deal strategy, which aims to cut pesticide use by 50% by 2030.

The company’s goal is to gradually enter European markets after launching domestically. The solution can be applied to more than 50% of arable crops, providing significant scaling potential for the business.

“This investment aligns with the mindset we’ve embraced from the beginning: to support those who want to create positive change in our natural environment through modern technology – WeedEye is a great example of this,” said Imre Hild, CEO of OUVC.

With this investment, OUVC aims to support an agritech startup that provides tangible answers to the challenges of modern agriculture and has the capacity to make a real, long-term impact on the future of the industry.
